87th SCGA Amateur Championship – Mother Nature Extends Round Two
St. Helena Island, SC - With an on-time start followed by an immediate down pour and three hour weather delay, round two of the 87th SCGA Amateur Championship will have to wait another day before it wraps up at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course. Round two of the championship will resume tomorrow morning, August 4th, with a 7:30am shotgun start.
Day two of the championship still provided weather concerns with some mild showers and a constant threat, but low scores and a very active leaderboard prevailed. Staying on top after posting a second round three under par, 68 is Aiken's Jake Carter. Carter came out firing, carding three birdies and six pars on his first nine holes. He would follow that with another birdie and a bogey on his back nine, keeping him at the head of the pack heading into the weekend. Posting a five under par, 66 for consecutive rounds - William Harwood of Columbia surged up the leaderboard and currently shares the lead with Carter leading into the weekend. Harwood came out the gates on a mission. With two birdies and an eagle on his first nine, the Elon University rising junior has positioned himself nicely for the weekend. Crediting his driving and putting again, he hopes these will continue to provide consistent play throughout the championship.
Gamecock Men's Golfer, Caleb Proveaux climbed up the leaderboard today with a four under par, 68 and securing the solo third place position as we head into the weekend. Proveaux had a game plan to keep it in the fairway and if some putts fell, that was a bonus. Hoping to keep that mindset, Proveaux will be one to watch on the leaderboard.
