Odiorne Takes First Round Lead at SCGA Super Senior Championship
A beautiful blue-skyed day greeted players for the opening round of the 15th Annual Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC. Walter Odiorne of Blythewood will take a one stroke lead heading into the final round.
Odiorne pieced together a dramatic opening round by firing a 31 front nine compared to a 39 back nine to ultimately finish with an opening round of two under par 70. Joe Hendrick (Chesterfield) sits alone in second place after an opening round of 71. Dennis Helms (North Myrtle Beach) is currently in third after a first round of 74 followed by Terry Willis (Greenville) in fourth at 75. The 2019 SCGA Super Senior Champion, John Long (Murrells Inlet), sits in a three-way tie for fifth place after an opening round of 76.
In the Legends Division, former Super Senior Champion, Mike Weiner of Kiawah Island leads with an opening round of even par 71 and takes a two-shot lead over George Ackerman (Charleston).
The Super Senior Championship consists of two divisions. The Championship division (Age 65-69) was split into three flights by first round scores: First Flight (70-78), Second Flight (79-81), and Third Flight (82-95). The Legends Division (Age 70 & Over) was split into three flights by first round scores: First Flight (71-78), Second Flight (79-81), and Third Flight (82-91). The Final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

The 2021 SCGA Super Senior Championship is being conducted on the par 71 Florence Country Club course in Florence, SC. The course is playing at 5,950 yards for the Championship Division and 5,478 yards for the Legends Division. The field consists of 83 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke Play format conducted over thirty six holes. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA.
The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, one-day contests, nine USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events.
