Johnson Victorious at Carolina Forty Plus Series Event
Yancey Johnson of Simpsonville was victorious at the fifth SCGA 40 Plus Series event of 2021 that was contested at The Carolina Country Club, after a chip-off win over Max Fain (Boiling Springs). Both players finished with gross scores of even par 72. There was a three-way tie for third between Jeremy Revis (Greenville), Jesse Kinnunen (Taylors), and Mike Hartin (Slater) after each player finished with a tournament total of 74.
In the Tournament Net Division, Travis Blackwell (Lyman) captured the win with a net score of 71.
In the Senior Gross Division, Ronald Pruitt (Spartanburg) stood atop the leaderboard after an impressive two under par round of 70. Jeff Jaeggi (Simpsonville) and Dan Sullivan (Columbia) tied for second as each player finished with a round of 75.
In the Senior Net Division, Gregory Conde (West Columbia) won after a net total of six under par 66.
Mike Calkins (Columbia) captured the Super Senior Gross Division title after a one over par round of 73. Finishing in second place was Roger Page (Duncan) with a tournament total of 76.
In the Super Senior Net Division, Dean Beckley (Woodruff) finished in first with a net total of even par 72.

The 40 Plus is a series of events conducted for golfers across South Carolina, over the age of 40. The field consisted of 81 players playing The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, SC. This event was the fifth of seven 40 Plus events the SCGA will conduct in 2021. The next 40 Plus event will be held on November 8th at Camden Country Club in Camden, SC.
The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
