GEORGETOWN, SC (Aug. 5, 2021) – First round results of the 90th SCGA Amateur Championship hosted by DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, SC.
DeBordieu Club greeted 132 of South Carolinas best amateur golfers for the first round of the 90th SCGA Amateur Championship. Oliver Rotermund of Daniel Island finished the day with a six-under par round of 66 to take the round one lead. Firing an impressive seven birdies, he holds a two-shot lead heading into the second round.
“I started off pretty slow,” said Rotermund. “I hit a lot of greens and made a bunch of pars, and then I went to the front and kind of just hit it really close on every hole. I had a birdie putt on every hole and just took advantage of the opportunities I had. My putter was pretty hot so hopefully I can do that again tomorrow. I’m in a good spot going into tomorrow and I’ve got to take advantage of it. My plan is to just keep playing my game, I don’t hit it that far so hopefully just hit fairways and greens and make a couple putts.”
Zach Adams of Charleston and Michael Rials of Florence stand tied for second after each player posted first round scores of four-under par 68.
“I started off hot today,” Adams said. “I was three-under through six, made some putts and then birdied the last hole to shoot four under. My plan going into tomorrow is the same, just to have fun and make putts.”
“I got off to a pretty good start on the front with five birdies,” Rials said. “I Birdied 11 which was nice and just kind of played solid golf to finish. I’m just going to keep it simple tomorrow, stay in the present and take it shot by shot.”
Five players sit tied for fourth, each finishing three-under 69 for the round.
