Low Scores Dominate First Round of SCGA Four-Ball Championship
After the first round of the SCGA Four Ball Championship, the upstate duo of Garland Ferrell (Greenville) and Marcus Grumbles (Greenville) find themselves atop the leader board after firing the low round of the day at nine under par 63.
Even as challenging as the Musgrove Mill layout is, sunshine and only a slight breeze helped give way to a plethora of teams that would start their SCGA Four-Ball venture by providing under par rounds. Ferrell and Grumbles provided eight birdies, one eagle, eight pars, and one lone bogey throughout their opening round to propel themselves to the lead by one stroke over the 2012 and 2018 SCGA Four-Ball Champion team of Walt Todd (Greenville) and Brandon Truesdale (Rock Hill), as the former champions shot 64.
Alone in third place after the first round is two former PGA professional golfers, Charles Warren (Greenville) and his partner Brent Delahoussaye (Greenville), who also provided a stellar opening round of golf with a seven under par 65. Robbie Biershenk (Boiling Springs) and Landon Hames (Roebuck) are in fourth place after an opening round of 66.
Sixty teams are vying for the 31 spots that qualify for the Match Play portion of the event that begins on Friday. Defending Champions Kyle Milner (Spartanburg) and Bryan Kelley (Spartanburg) have secured the top seed in Match Play by virtue of their victory in 2019 as the SCGA Four-Ball Championship was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The Second Round of Stroke Play Qualifying will begin Thursday morning at 8:00 AM off of holes #1 and #10.
