Obrien and Day Capture Victory at Forty Plus Four-Ball Event
Sunshine and a stunning golf course greeted the players at the Forty Plus Series event at The River Golf Club on Monday. In the Tournament Division, John Obrien (Columbia) & Jeff Day (Blythewood) claimed top honors with a gross better ball score of 7 under par 64 . Josh Branyon (Honea Path) and Blake Williamson (Anderson) finished in second place after a round of 65 followed by Chris Eassy (Simpsonville) and Jeremy Revis (Greenville) in third place with a 3 under par 68.
In the Tournament Net Division, Stephen McFerrin (Lexington) and Tom Taylor (Greenwood) tied atop the leaderboard with Bo McCullough (Aiken) and Daran Womack (Aiken) after both teams shot a net total of 5 under 66. The teams of Chris Christiansen (Chapin) and Carey Evens (Spartanburg), Tim Schwab (Simpsonville) and Chris Wilkins (Simpsonville), along with Cason Mabry (Clinton) and Claude Alexander (Central) finished in a tie for third with net totals of 67.
In the Senior Gross Division, Mike Gravley (Greer) and Todd Webber (Moore) captured the victory with a round of 6 under par 65. Finishing in second was the team of Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) and Brad Krapfel (Columbia) after a round of 4 under par 67. Finishing alone in third place was the team of Thomas Eberhard (Johns Island) and Rich Rebholz (Rock Hill) with a gross total of 69.
In the Senior Net Division, John Ivester (Greenwood) and Dennis Beauford (Troy) finished atop the leaderboard with a net total of 65.
John Cottrell (Gilbert) and Bob Edens (Columbia) took top gross honors in the Super Senior Gross Division after a round of 5 under par 66. In the Super Senior Net Division, Russell Smith (Columbia) and Vince Williams (Columbia) finished in first after a net round of 66.

The Forty Plus is a series of events conducted for golfers across South Carolina, over the age of 40. The field consisted of 44 two-man teams playing The River Golf Club in North Augusta, SC. This event was the second scheduled of seven 40 Plus events the SCGA will conduct in 2021. The next 40 Plus event will be held on April 20th at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville, SC.
The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
