Hargett Dominant in Opening Round of Senior Championship
Eddie Hargett shot an opening round score of five under par 67 to take the first round lead in the 62nd Annual SCGA Senior Championship being held at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, SC. Steve Liebler (Irmo) is just two shots off of the lead after an opening round score of three under par 69 followed by Walter Todd (Laurens) with a first round score of 70. The 2018 SCGA Senior Champion, Rich Weston (Pawleys Island), is alone in fourth place with a first round score of one under par 71, but still has plenty of time to jump up the leaderboard in hopes of adding his name for a second time on The Bob Causey Cup.
Hargett’s day was filled with blue skies, sunshine, and birdies. He began his round with three birdies in the first five holes followed by four straight pars for a front nine of 33. After turning at 3 under, the 2019 SCGA Senior Player of the Year continued his immaculate play on the back nine adding three additional birdies, five pars, and dropping his lone shot of the day with a bogey on the 416-yard par four 16th hole for a back nine score of 34.
The Second round of the Championship will begin at 8:30 a.m. off the #1 tee at The Carolina Country Club.
