Pope and Ramey Take First Round Lead at Senior Better Ball
Blue skies and sunshine greeted the players at the 47th Annual SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship held at Santee Cooper Country Club. Tim Pope (Spartanburg) and Doug Ramey (Greer) opened the tournament with a six under par round of 66 to take a one-shot lead over the brother duo of Walter Todd (Laurens) & T.D. Todd (Laurens). The 2018 Senior Better Ball Champion team of Rick Crout (Mount Pleasant) and Steve Liebler (Irmo) are just two shots off the lead after shooting a first round score of 68. Pope and Ramey combined for seven birdies, ten pars, and one lone bogey throughout their opening 18 holes and will look to continue their steady play for the final round.
The field will be split into four flights for Sunday’s final round based on first round scores. The Final round will begin on Sunday as a first tee start beginning at 8:00 AM.
The 2020 SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship is being played at the par 72 – 6,369 yard Santee Cooper Country Club. The field consists of 48 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Better Ball Championship is in its 47th year of existence.
