Weather Delay Extends Round Two into the Weekend at Amateur Championship
With the first round still needing to be completed, the second day of the 89th SCGA Amateur Championship at Columbia Country Club would see the field wrapping up Friday morning. Mother Nature provided clear skies and bright sunshine for players to tidy up their remaining holes, regroup and hit the course again to begin round two.
An early low round during the morning wave of round one would keep Jonathan Griz (Hilton Head Island) atop the leaderboard. Creating some hype in the afternoon wave, Camden's Ryan Reynolds would join Griz at the top, matching his -4 under par (68) in the first round.
The afternoon wave would again experience a weather delay, forcing the completion of the second round into the weekend. Competitors will finish 36-hole scoring tomorrow morning, restarting at 7:30am. Upon completion of play, a cut will be made to determine the low 60 and ties who will contend on the weekend.
Those remaining on the course Friday evening with a shot a making a move, include current leader Griz who sits at -9 under par for the tournament with six holes to play and Sumter's Christian Salzer who through 15 holes sits one shot behind at-8 under par. Reigning champion Tyler Gray (Lugoff) has carded 11 pars and four birdies through 14 holes, just three shots back.
