Griz Fires Early Low Round Prior to Afternoon Weather Suspension
The sun emerged from the morning clouds to provide a picture perfect start to the 89th SCGA Amateur Championship at Columbia Country Club. Beaming rays would continue until two afternoon weather delays would suspend.
With five birdies and one bogey, Jonathan Griz jumped to the top of the leaderboard in the morning wave. Crediting his ball striking that kept him in contention all day, Griz focused on hitting fairways and greens and hoping for a putt to drop. The ball would find the bottom of the cup on the back nine as he would card back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 and sneak one more in at the par-3 17th hole.
Due to weather conditions, round one of the 89th SCGA Amateur Championship was suspended for the day. Current players on the course will restart tomorrow morning, August 7th at 7:30am to completed their round. Round two of the championship will begin on a two hour delay.

The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf.
