Red Numbers and Sunshine Take Center Stage at Partners Championship

Greeted with some of the best weather in years, round one of the 27th Annual Partners Championship was filled with sunshine and red numbers as players competed across two courses. The Club at Woodcreek and Spring Valley Country Club, hosts clubs of the event, provided just the test for players of all levels.

Getting an early edge on the field, Josh Branyon (Honea Path) and Kevin Roberts (Chesnee) along with the duo of Weston Bell (Piedmont) and Robert Lutomski (Simpsonville) jumped out early posting an 11 under par, 61 to take a one shot lead on the field. Branyon and Roberts would card nine birdies and one eagle in their opening round, while Bell and Lutomski would take a similar route, firing a back nine score of six under par 30 that showcased six birdies in a row.

The teams of Ben Karns (Gaffney) and Andy Karns (Johns Island), Josh McMillan (Boiling Springs) and Stan Sill (Spartanburg), Clayton Berline (Greenville) and Wesley Harden (Greenville) and Chris Ehlich (Landrum) and Yancey Johnson (Simpsonville) will look to add some heat to the leaders as they all sit one shot back heading into the final round. The Championship Division will head to Spring Valley Country Club for the final round of competition.

The Florence due of Landis Lane and Quentin Yarborough will take a one shot lead into the final round as the Tournament Division will head to The Club at Woodcreek in Blythewood for the final round. Lane and Yarborough posted an eight under par 64 that included eight birdies and 10 pars. Sitting just one shot back of the leaders are the Simpsonville's Duane Barnes and Dennis Schwab and the team of Jeff Jackson (York) Kevin Tindall (Rock Hill) who fired a seven under par 65 in their opening round.

The final round will be contested with a modified Texas Scramble format and will begin with a 9:30 shotgun start. For detailed scoring, final round pairings and other tournament information – 27th SCGA Partners Championship.
