Branyon and Williamson Capture Victory at Forty Plus Four-Ball
Drier weather and a stunning golf course greeted the players at the first 40 Plus Series event of 2020 at The River Golf Club. The 40 Plus Series Event at The River Golf Club was originally set for a week prior, but low temperatures and heavy rainfalls forced a reschedule. In the Tournament Division, Josh Branyon (Honea Path) & Blake Williamson (Anderson) claimed top honors by playoff over Jay Blackburn (Aiken) and Jeff Pope (North Augusta) after both teams finished with gross better ball scores of 7 under par 64 . Chris Eassy (Greer) and Yancey Johnson (Simpsonville) finished in third place after a round of 65.
In the Tournament Net Division, Bryan Borsum (Fort Mill) and Matthew Nagy (Rock Hill) shot a net total of 9 under 62 to win the division. The teams of Dean Nance (Greenville) and Doug Ramey (Greer), Scott Vandervelde (Irmo) and Lee Winters (Whitmire), along with Travis Blackwell (Lyman) and Greg Moore (Greer) finished in a tie for third with net totals of 67.
In the Senior Gross Division, Russell Berry (Elgin) and Ken Martin (Lexington) captured the victory with a round of 2 under par 69. The teams of Mike Gravley (Greer) and Todd Webber (Moore) along with Robin Alley (Columbia) and Gus Sylvan (Columbia) finished in a two-way tie for second with gross scores of 71.
In the Senior Net Division, Rick Oyervides (Greer) and Theodore Wojack (Greenville) finished atop the leaderboard with a net total of 64.
Lee Brown (Taylors) and Bo Leslie (Simpsonville) took top gross honors in the Super Senior Gross Division after a round of 73. In the Super Senior Net Division, Jim Post (Columbia) and Vince Williams (Columbia) finished in first after a net round of 71.
The 40 Plus is a series of events conducted for golfers across South Carolina, over the age of 40. The field consisted of 36 two-man teams playing The River Golf Club in North Augusta, SC. This event was the first of seven 40 Plus events the SCGA will conduct in 2020. The next 40 Plus event will be held on March 30th at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC.
