Champions Gather for Tournament of Champions

The first round of the SCGA Tournament of Champions was quite the anomaly as blue skies, sunshine, and temperatures in the sixties greeted players at the 24th Annual SCGA Tournament of Champions held at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, SC.

After the completion of round one, there is a two way tie in the Men’s Club Division between Kevin Roberts (Chesnee) and Chris Asbell (Summerville) both with opening rounds of even par 72. In the Senior Club Division, Bill Hall (Rock Hill) leads after an impressive first round score of 5 under par 67. Chris Eassy (Greer) leads the One Day Gross Division after an opening round score of even par 72. Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) has a four shot lead in the One Day Senior Division after a first round score of 67. Kerry Rutan (Daniel Island) has a two stroke lead over Catherine Loper (Blythewood) in the Women’s Division after an opening round 77. In the One Day Net Division, Dennis Guerriero (Lexington) is atop the leaderboard with a net score of 72.

The final round will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, January 26th.

The Tournament of Champions is being played over the TPC Myrtle Beach layout in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The field consists 87 men & women Club and One Day tournament Champions throughout South Carolina. The Tournament of Champions is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 24th year of existence.
