2019 SCGA Player of the Year & Senior Player of the Year Announced

Sease and Hargett Receive SCGA Player of the Year Honors

Columbia, S.C. - The South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year recognizes those competitors who had exceptional individual and team finishes throughout the competition year. The awards are given to the number one golfer based on the SCGA Player of the Year point system as of December 1st in each division. This year, the SCGA is proud to announce Jordan Sease as the Player of the Year and Eddie Hargett as the Senior Player of the Year.

A graduate of Winthrop University and the men's golf team, Jordan Sease of Lexington edged out Raymond Wooten (Clemson) by almost six points to claim the association’s prestigious honor. Sease had many highlights during his season but capturing the 39th Mid-Amateur Championship Presented by The Vacation Company at Palmetto Hall Plantation had to be one of the top. Sease battled through tough weather conditions to claim the title and continue his trek to sliding into the top Player of the Year position. Showing he can perform on the big stage as well, Sease qualified for the US Mid-Amateur Championship at Colorado Golf Club. Unfortunately, he would go on to miss the cut to advance to match play. Sease would bounce back though and capture a team win with partner Brandon Truesdale at the SCGA Mid-Am Four - Ball Championship at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Sease would capture another win before rounding out his season at the 2019 Festival of Flowers at The Patriot at Grand Harbor, firing a final round two under par 68 to put himself into a play-off with Barnwell's Kyle Bearden. Only taking one play-off hole, Sease would make birdie to capture the title. Sease would add two more top 20 finishes to his profile with a tie for 20th at the 88th SCGA Amateur Championship at Thornblade Club and a tie for 17th at the CGA Mid-Am Championship. Sease expressed what this achievement means to him saying "It is a great honor to win the SCGA Player of the Year award. South Carolina has many great golfers and this is a testament to the great work of the SC Junior Golf program and SCGA that I participated in over the years. Playing at the Country Club of Lexington and the quality of players there; as well as a number of my friends who are excellent golfers, has helped me maintain my competitive edge. Golf is a wonderful life long sport that I enjoy playing and look forward to competing in many more SCGA events in the future."

A staple name in SCGA events throughout the years, Eddie Hargett of Blythewood successfully captured the Senior SCGA Player of the Year, edging out 2016, 17 and 18 Senior Player of the Year Walter Todd, Sr by four-tenths of a point.

Playing in just under twenty events this season, Hargett would compile an impressive profile in his trek to capturing the Senior Player of the Year title. Hargett had one win, seven top five finishes and eight top 20 finishes in his 2019 showing. Capturing a win at the SCGA Tournament of Champions to kick-off his record year, Hargett would follow that with two 5th place finishes in the highly recognized national events the North-South Senior Amateur and Sunnehanna Senior Amateur. His season was highlighted by qualifying for the prestigious US Senior Open that was conducted at the Warren Course at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Hargett would have strong showings in SCGA events as well, finishing 4th at the SCGA Senior Championship at Callawassie Island Club and a 6th place finish with partner Walter Todd at the Senior Four-Ball Championship at Florence Country Club. When asked what this honor means to him, Hargett expressed, "When I think about that question three words come to mind - honored, thankful and grateful. Honored to share this accomplishment and be on the list of so many great players that have so many tremendous accomplishments. More importantly joining a list of such successful men that embody such integrity for the game. Thankful I've been able to continue to play after spinal surgery, as there were many frustrating periods during my recovery. Grateful for the work the SCGA does for all of us in South Carolina, giving us the opportunity to compete in a sport we love, and finally and more importantly, the friendships I've created on and off the golf course over the years - showcasing the greatest value of the game."

Both players will be recognized and receive awards at the 2019 South Carolina Golf Day celebration, January 11, 2020 at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, SC. At this time, the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame Board will also induct it’s 71st and 72nd members, Kevin King and Mike Lawrence.
