Mother Nature Takes Toll On Mid-Amateur Second Round
Hilton Head, S.C. – The second round of the 39th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship will be completed on Sunday morning after Mother Nature decided to push her will on participants at Palmetto Hall Plantation’s Arthur Hills Course.
Beginning the day with an already heightened chance of rain and thunderstorms, the first wave of players was able to make a dent on their second round before a line of thunderstorms flowing off the coast of Hilton Head made its way on the island at 11:00 AM. After a two-hour delay, play was resumed for the on course groups, while the afternoon wave was pushed back an hour and a half from their original team times. Eventually as the second wave pushed to finish their second rounds, darkness finally forced the remaining groups off of the course ultimately leading to the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship having to finish its second round Sunday morning.
Standing atop the leaderboard as the second round nears completion is Jordan Sease (Lexington) who finished his second round with a score of 3 under par 69. Sease battled through much of the weather as he was part of the first wave firing nines of 35 and 34 respectively. Kyle Bearden (Barnwell) and Raymond Wooten (Clemson) are two shots off of the lead after finishing with two day totals of 139. Four groups remain on the course waiting to finish up their second round play.
The Second round of the Championship will resume as a 7:30 a.m shotgun. The Final Round is expected to begin around 9:30 AM after the cut is made to the low 60 and ties.
The 2019 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship is being conducted on the par 72 ~ 6,850 yard Palmetto Hall Arthur Hills Course in Hilton Head, SC. For pairings, live scoring and championship results - 39th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship
