Lawrence and King Chosen for South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame
Columbia, S.C. – – Lifetime Carolinas PGA member Mike Lawrence and longtime Amateur player Kevin King have been chosen for induction into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, president Frank Ford III announced July 31, 2019.
The honorees will become the shrine’s 71st and 72nd members in ceremonies during the South Carolina Golf Association’s annual Golf Day at Columbia Country Club on January 11, 2020.
Lawrence, an Anderson resident, has a collection of titles throughout his career that include three South Carolina Opens, the Western NC Open, South Chapter Championship, Yeamans Hall Senior Open, Whispering Pines Senior Open, three-time winner of the SCPGA Pro-Pro and two-time winner of the CPGA Pro-Pro. He has also competed in 18 National PGA Club Professional Championships, five Senior PGA Championships, three PGA Championships, the 2010 US Senior Open and the 1990 US Open.
Along with his playing career, Lawrence has been a thirty-four-year Class A Member of the PGA of America. He has been the Head Professional of multiple Country Club’s while at the same time instructing, teaching and coaching countless individuals and juniors on how to play the game of golf. Mike’s integrity, passion, love and knowledge of everything that is golf has made for an impressive career.
Kevin King, a realtor in Bluffton, SC, has a long resume of championships that he has competed in and won over his years as an Amateur golfer. Other than a few years as a professional golfer in the early 1980’s and a quick stint on the PGA Champions Tour, King has been dominating Amateur golf for many years. Some of his victories include the 1989 SCGA Amateur Championship, 1988 and 1998 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championships, nine-time Hilton Head Amateur Champion, multiple partner Championships, a seven time USGA Mid-Am and US Amateur contestant, 2019 USGA Senior Open qualifier, three-time representative of SC in the USGA’s Team Matches and Club Championships too many to list.
King’s playing career speaks for itself, but the honesty, honor and integrity in the way he plays the game has made him a figure of admiration among his peers and an exemplary representative of South Carolina at the amateur level.
