Quarterfinals Set at Musgrove Mill

The first round of Match Play began this morning at Musgrove Mill with 32 teams squaring off in sixteen different Four-Ball matches. Stroke Play Medalists Jonathan Coleman and Jack Brown were in the morning’s first match off number ten tee and fell to the team of Steven Calicutt and Landon Hames. The duo of Calicutt and Hames secured one of the final spots in the Match Play portion of the event after a par on their final hole in the Stroke Play portion of the Championship on Thursday evening. Defending champions Walt Todd Jr. and partner Brandon Truesdale won their opening round match after defeating the brother duo of Marcus and Shane Grumbles 3 & 2.   

In the afternoon matches, the number one seeded team of Todd and Truesdale continued to impress by beating Parker Derby and Preston King 6 & 5.  Todd and Truesdale will square off with Anderson natives Blake Williamson and Jake Miller Saturday morning. Williamson and Miller defeated Doug Appleby and Chris Koon 5 & 4 in their Round of 16 match.  Belmont Abbey teammates Connor Fahey and Benjamin Loudermilk took down the experienced team of Mark Gaynor and Todd Satterfield in the afternoon session. The Crusader tandem will face the Presbyterian College team of Thomas Addison, III and Weston Sanders in the Quarterfinals. In the battle between to mid-amateur teams, Robert and David Dargan defeated Josh Branyon and Yancey Johnson in a back and forth match that went all 18 holes. The Dargan brothers will face the Greenville Country Club member team of Matt Grandy and Lindsay Carrington in the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinal matches will begin Saturday morning at 8.00 am with the Semifinals starting in the afternoon.
