Two Teams Tied Atop the Leaderboard

The team of Bob Rickman (Florence) & Bob Varn (Orangeburg) along with the team of Roger Page (Dunca) & Tim Pope (Spartanburg) stand atop the leaderboard after both teams opened with six under par rounds of 66. Both teams hold a one shot lead heading into the Final Round of the SCGA’s Fifth Annual Super Senior Four-Ball Championship being held at The Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood, SC.

Playing under a slight breeze and sunshine throughout the day, both leading teams provided two under par nines, with each team shooting a 34 on the front nine followed by a 32 on the back nine. Right behind the leaders is the upstate duo of Bobby Hines (Greenville) and Terry Willis (Greer). Hines and Willis started out hot for a front nine six under par 30 but cooled down dramatically on the back nine to finish with a back nine total of 37. Three-time SCGA Super Senior Four-Ball Champions, George Ackerman (Kiawah Island) & Mike Weiner (Charleston), find themselves three shots back of the leaders heading into the final round but will continue to search for the elusive fourth title. The defending champion team of Bob Fisk (Murrells Inlet) & Mike Daniels (Seabrook Island) are four shots back after an opening round of 70.

In the Legends Division, Bob Albus (John’s Island) and John Ward (Kiawah Island) lead by two after an opening round of four under par 68. Ron Callahan (Little Mountain) and Dave Williamson (Columbia) are in second place after a first round score of 70.

The Final round will begin on Thursday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun.

The 2019 SCGA Super Senior Four-Ball Championship is being played at The Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood, SC. The starting field consists of 38 teams split into two divisions. The Championship Division was flighted based on Round One scores. The Championship Division consisting of players ages 65-69, is playing to a yardage of 5,637 yards while the Legends Division consisting of players ages 70 and over, is playing to a yardage of 5,492 yards. The format for the two days of competition is Four-Ball Stroke Play.
