King Takes Hold of the Reigns Heading Into Final Round
Kevin King of Bluffton has his eyes set on another SCGA Championship trophy after firing a stellar second round score of three under par 69 and a two day total of 141 to lead by four shots over Simpsonville’s Jeff Jaeggi at the 61st Annual SCGA Senior Championship being held at the Callawassie Island Club from May 13-15, 2019.
King started his second round venture on the Magnolia (back) nine by catapulting himself with three birdies on the first four holes. After a bogey on the Par 4 – 14th Hole, King would finish the Magnolia Course with three additional pars followed by another birdie on the wind encompassed Par 4 - 384 yard 18th Hole for a nine hole total of three under Par 33. As King continued to push to the Dogwood (front) nine, consistency proved to be key to the second round success as he would go on to record seven pars, one birdie, and a bogey on the last hole of the day to finish his round with a 69. A victory at the SCGA Senior Championship would provide a major championship trifecta, as King has already won the SCGA Amateur Championship in 1989 along with winning the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship in 1988 and 1998.
Just one shot behind King is Jeff Jaeggi, who joined King as the only players that shot under par in the second round of the SCGA Championship. The 2018 SCGA Senior Champion, Rich Weston (Pawleys Island), is still in striking distance five shots behind the leader followed by first round leader Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) who finished with a two day total of 147.
The Final Round of the SCGA Senior Championship will begin at 8:00 am off of #1 & #10 tees with 63 players participating in the final round after making the cut.
