Beautiful blue skies and sunshine greeted the players at the first 40 Plus Series event of 2019 at Dolphin Head Golf Club as John Obrien of Columbia was able to claim top honors with a round of one over par 73. Camden’s Dave Amundson finished alone in second place after a round of 74 followed by a three way tie for third between Eric Maland (Mt. Pleasant), Gerry Pascale (Bluffton), and Joe Bryant (Bluffton) after each player finished with respective rounds of 75.
In the Tournament Net Division, Mike Rutland (Greenwood) took the title with a net total of 66. Taking second place was Hank Foy(Spartanburg) with a net total of 68. Robert Lamaker (Hilton Head) won the third place spot with a net score of 70.
In the Senior Gross Division, Gary Nelson (Greenwood) took low honors after a gross score of 73. Finishing in a two way tie for second place was Doug Williams (Charleston) and Karl Rullman (Aiken) after each player finished with gross scores of 79.
In the Senior Net Division, Dennis Guerriero (Lexington) captured the victory with a net score of 68. Joel Aaron (Irmo) finished two shots back with a net score of 70 for solo second place.
In the Super Senior Gross Division, Steve Johnson (Hilton Head) won the playoff over Steve Pachol (Columbia) for first place after both participants finished with rounds of 76. In the Super Senior Net Division, Don Ries (Bluffton) grabbed first place with a net score of 67.
The 40 Plus is a series of events conducted for golfers across South Carolina, over the age of 40. The field consisted of 75 players playing the Dolphin Head Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, SC. This event was the first of seven 40 Plus events the SCGA will conduct in 2019. The next 40 Plus event will be held on March 25th at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC.
