Champions Gather for Tournament of Champions

Not even a slight delay due to frost could stop a beautiful day full of sunshine and great golf as 93 players came together for the first round of the 23rd Annual SCGA Tournament of Champions held at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, SC.

After the completion of round one, the leader in the Men’s Club Division is Kevin Roberts (Chesnee) after a two under par round of 70. In the Senior Club Division, Ken Kirkland (Simpsonville) and Tim Pope (Spartanburg) are tied atop the leaderboard after both players shot two over par rounds of 74. John Obrien (Columbia) leads the One Day Gross Division after an opening round score of even par 72. Frank Finley (Laurens) has a one shot lead in the One Day Senior Division with a score of 70. Makalyn Poole (Williamston) has a three stroke lead over Sydney Roberts (Chesnee) and Chrissie Spidell (Anderson) in the Women’s Division after an opening round 79. In the One Day Net Division, Joe Tucker (Lyman) is atop the leaderboard with a net score of 68.

The final round will begin with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, January 27th.

The 2018 Tournament of Champions is being played over the TPC Myrtle Beach layout in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The field consists 93 men & women Club and One Day tournament Champions throughout South Carolina. The Tournament of Champions is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 23rd year of existence.
