60th SCGA Junior Championship – Round One Results

Dataw Island, S.C. - Greeted with sunny skies and a sweet lowcountry breeze, the 60th SCGA Junior Championship Presented by the Heritage Classic Foundation commenced Monday. The par-72 Cotton Dike Course at the Dataw Island Club provided just the test this elite championship brings year after year.

Local standout Daniel Azallion took no time to surge to the top of the leaderboard.  Carding six birdies and one eagle, Azallion compiled scores of 33-32 for a first round seven under par, 65. Azallion spoke about his round and the consistent nines he was able to pair together. Azallion credited hitting a lot of fairways and greens and making birdie putts as the difference in his round today. "I knew I was playing well when I was able to come back from my bogey with an eagle on number seven and follow that with a birdie on number eight," stated Azallion.

Three shots behind and carding his lowest competitive tournament round is Trey Crenshaw (Lancaster). With three birdies in a row, Crenshaw posted a three-under 33 on the front nine and followed that with a one-under 35 on the back nine. Crenshaw will look to stay atop the leaderboard as he chases the first round leader.

In total, 13 players sit under par after round one of the Junior Championship. After tomorrow's second round, the division will be cut to the low 54 players and ties.  Please follow the SCGA on all social media outlets for up-to-date and live coverage of the event.

In the Boys 13-14 Division, Pake June of Florence, Waymon Thomas of Mt. Pleasant and Zach Adams of Charleston sit in a tie for the lead with a three over par, 75. All players stayed consistent and carded only five birdies between the three of them. Walker Jennings of Greenville posted a first round 76, only one-shot back. The division will be cut to the low 17 and ties after the second round, as the battle will continue as a champion will be crowned on Wednesday, June 13th.
