55th Annual Four-Ball Championship – Quarterfinal and Semifinal Results

SCGA Four Ball Championship
Musgrove Mill Golf Club
Clinton, SC
May 23 – May 27, 2018

Finals Match Set After A Day of Endurance

After a full day of golf at Musgrove Mill, the Finals of the SCGA Four-Ball Championship is set. The team of Chris Mitchell and Matt Laydon will face off against Walt Todd and Brandon Truesdale in a rematch of the 2012 SCGA Four-Ball Championship.

As rain and lightning postponed the Round of 16 on Friday, the continuation began at 8:00 am on Saturday morning. The 30-seeded team of Chris Ehlich and Doug Ramey defeated the 19-seeded Ryan Reynolds and Brandon Cemprola team 1 Up. Cody Clepper and Peyton Shore provided a strong 5 & 4 victory over Max Fain and Todd Whitehead. The Medalist team of Jamie Lightsey and Tyler Tucker continued their march forward with a convincing win over Hunter Parks and Zachary Herold 5&4. The 2017 Four-Ball Champion team of Mickey Plyler and Raymond Wooten defeated Country Club of Spartanburg members Kyle Milner and Bryan Kelley 4&3. Jared Crane and Matthew Mead needed three extra holes to defeat the Limestone College golf coach duo of Zack Siefert and Cabrick Waters 1 Up. Thomas Todd and Matthew Wiggins defeated Weston Bell and Robert Lutomski 1 Up.

In the Quarterfinal matches, Jared Crane and Matthew Mead battled through another playoff victory to defeat Clemson residents Mickey Plyler and Raymond Wooten 1 Up after 19 holes. Former Champions Walt Todd and Brandon Truesdale defeated Thomas Todd and Matthew Wiggins with a 3 & 2 victory. Jamie Lightsey and Tyler Tucker defeated Cody Clepper and Peyton Shore 1 Up while Matt Laydon and Chris Mitchell held the gas pedal down to defeat Chris Ehlich and Doug Ramey 3&1.

With four teams left in the hunt, the Semifinal Matches were polar opposites as one match was completed with pure dominance, and the other with pure grit. Mid-Amateur duo Matt Laydon and Chris Mitchell “rolled up their sleeves” against the medalist team of Lightsey and Tucker to advance to the finals with a 5&4 victory. The final match of the day was a back and forth battle between the two teams and the dwindling daylight. With Todd and Truesdale being 2 Up through 16 holes, Matthew Mead pushed through exhaustion to hit his tee shot on the par 3 – seventeenth hole to four feet for birdie. With four birdies attempts on the par 5 – eighteenth hole, 2012 Champions Walt Todd and Brandon Truesdale hung on for a 1 Up victory after the teams halved with pars to advance to another SCGA Four-Ball final.

The Final 18 hole match will take place at 8.00 a.m. off of #1 tee at Musgrove Mill.  For full information including detailed scoring and pairings visit our tournament web page – 55th Four Ball Championship
