Meldrums In Familiar Position
Three time Defending Champions, Chad and Kadi Meldrum, find themselves in familiar territory leading the WSCGA/SCGA Mixed Team Championship after the first round with a score of one under par 70. After making bogey on the first hole of the day, the Aiken couple managed four birdies and only two other bogies to finish the round one shot ahead of the second place team of Shawn and Lea Venable.
In the Senior Division, Nick Avery and Julie Flynn, from Goose Creek and Myrtle Beach, shot the low score of the day with a four under par 67. They hold a three shot lead over Danny Stubbs and Natalie Huff who finished with a score of one under par 70.
The final round of the Mixed Team Championship will begin Sunday morning with a 9.30 Shotgun.
The 2017 WSCGA/SCGA Mixed Team Championship is being played at Fripp Island’s Ocean Creek course. The field consisted of 60 man & woman teams playing a Best Ball format the first day and a Select Drive-Alternate Shot format the second day. The Mixed Team Championship is in its 19th year of existence and is one of 21 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association and one of two Championships conducted in unison with the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association.
