Two Tied at the Top After First Round
Fall finally arrived as players were greeted with cool temperatures and sunny skies for the first round of the 11th Annual Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC. Joe Hackler and Rick Cobb find themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard heading into Wednesday’s Final Round.
Two time defending champion Joe Hackler (Myrtle Beach) paired two birdies along with three bogeys for a one over par round of 72. Tied with Hackler is Taylors native Rick Cobb. Cobb had an up and down day matching four birdies with five bogeys for his round of 72. Duane Bausman (Awendaw) and Dennis Slezak (Mount Pleasant) sit two shots behind Hackler and Cobb after rounds of three over par 74.
In the Legends Division, Mike Weiner of Kiawah Island holds a one shot lead over Goose Creek’s Nick Avery after an opening round of 72.
The Super Senior Championship consists of two divisions. The Championship division (Age 65-69) was split into three flights by first round scores: Wilson Flight (72-77), Second Flight (78-81), and Third Flight (83 & Above). The Legends Division (Age 70 & Over) was split into three flights by first round scores: Orr Flight (72-78), Second Flight (79-83), and Third Flight (84 & Above). The Final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

The 2017 SCGA Super Senior Championship is being conducted on the par 71 Florence Country Club course in Florence, SC. The course is playing at 5,950 yards for the Championship Division and 5,478 yards for the Legends Division. The field consists of 108 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The Super Senior is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 11th year of existence.
