86th Amateur Championship – Round Two Results

Keur Moves To The Top

Florence, SC – Survive and advance was the theme of the day at Florence Country Club for the 86th SCGA Amateur Championship presented by McLeod Health.  Winds picked up and rain threatened but never delayed play as the course clawed back at the field.

However, North Charleston’s RJ Keur was not deterred.  Today’s round belonged to the recent Carolinas Amateur and SC Match Play Champion, who followed up his opening round four-under par performance with another solid round of three under par 67 and take a one-shot lead into the weekend.  The UAB Blazer has been playing great golf as of late and wasn’t shy of taking aim at the flagsticks.  “I kept giving myself chances and another and had another good finish to my first nine finishing birdie-birdie.  It gives me a little bit of a boost mentally,” Keur commented.  When asked about his game-plan heading into the weekend, “fairways and greens is all I can say,” he remarked.

First round leader Parks Price (Longs) gave two shots back to his fellow competitors by shooting a second-day 72 but still sits in second place on the leaderboard.  Joining Price at six under is US Amateur Championship Qualifier, Ryan Marter of Columbia after posting a second-round score of four under 66 and St. Matthews native and NCSU Wolfpack member Justin Hood.

Three players sit just three strokes off the lead at four-under par. They include FCC Club Champion and local favorite Gregg Jones, James Lightsey, Jr. of Ft. Mill, and Easley’s Matt Carter.

In comparison, 21 players shot under par in the opening round, 19 in round two.  However, heading into the weekend, only 13 players have posted 36-hole totals better than par.  A total of 72 players made the cut at eight over par 148.

The third round of the Amateur Championship will begin on #1 and #10 tees at 8.00 am.  For full information including detailed scoring and pairings visit our tournament web page – 86th Amateur Championship .
