23rd Annual Mid-Amateur Championship
White Goes Wire to Wire
With a final round five under par 67, Todd White becomes the 23rd SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion. Leading wire to wire, White finished with a three round total of seventeen under par 199. Finishing in second place, three shots behind was Steve Liebler of Irmo.
White, who began the day with a three shot lead, had three birdies and two eagles along with two bogies to shoot his final round score of 67. At no point did his playing partners, Steve Liebler and Mike Gravley, ever get closer than three shots of the lead. The Moore native capped off his victory with a birdie on the final hole, the par five 18th and claimed his first SCGA Major Championship of the year. The victory also sealed White’s hold on the Player of the Year points list.
Steve Liebler finished with a seven under round of 65 to claim second place at 202 and Mike Gravley fired a solid two under par round of 70 to take third. Defending Champion, Lee Palms, finished at even par 216.
The 2004 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship was played over the par 72 6,795 yard Greg Norman designed Old Field Golf Club in Okatie, SC. The field consisted of 75 players over the age of 30 and was cut to the low 60 and ties after the first two days of play. The Mid-Amateur Championship is one of 17 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 23rd year of existence.
