Hamilton Takes First Round Lead
Unseasonably warm temperatures and abundant sunshine greeted players for the opening round of the 10th Annual Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC. Jimmy Hamilton of Aiken will take a one stroke lead heading into the final round.
Hamilton began his day on the second hole with a bogey but was able to right the ship and close out his opening nine with an even par score of 35. After making birdie on number twelve, he began to stumble with a double bogey at thirteen and two consecutive bogeys at fourteen and fifteen but regained his composure with birdies coming in at sixteen and eighteen. Bobby Cox of Duncan and defending champion Joe Hackler of Myrtle Beach are one shot behind after an opening round 73.
In the Legends Division, former Super Senior Champion, Bob Stringer of Blythewood leads with an opening round of one under par 70.
The Super Senior Championship consists of two divisions. The Championship division (Age 65-69) was split into three flights by first round scores: Wilson Flight (72-77), Second Flight (78-82), and Third Flight (83-88). The Legends Division (Age 70 & Over) was split into two flights by first round scores: Orr Flight (70-75) and Second Flight (76-81), and Third Flight (82-93). The Final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

The 2016 SCGA Super Senior Championship is being conducted on the par 71 Florence Country Club course in Florence, SC. The course is playing at 5,950 yards for the Championship Division and 5,478 yards for the Legends Division. The field consists of 91 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The Super Senior is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 34th year of existence.
