2016 SCGA Junior Championship – Second Round Release
After two rounds of the 58th playing of the SCGA Junior Championship presented by the Heritage Classic Foundation; Colby Patton (Fountain Inn) sits atop the leader board after he posted the lowest score of the tourney with a three under 69. He sits at two under par after 36 holes. On the par five 15th, “I hit a majestic three iron to 5 feet for an eagle” said the 2017 graduate. The eagle vaulted him to five under for the day and a last hole double brought the field a bit closer. Patrick Golden (Murrells Inlet) sits at even par 144 and is in the final group pairing with Trent Phillips (Inman) who is also at 144.
The boys 13-14 bracket has Nathan Franks (Roebuck) is on top of the younger bracket after two days, he is at three over 147. Manning Sloop (Rock Hill) is one back at 148, with two others at 149.
The field was cut to the 17 players and ties in the 13-14 age bracket and the ax fell at 166 for both rounds. … The boys 15-17 had 54 players make it to the last round of play at a score of or better.
The low eight scores of the tournament automatically qualify for the 41st Annual Georgia-South Carolina Junior Team Matches. They will be played July 22-23 at Idle Hour Golf & Country Club in Macon, Georgia. These coveted Matches are the longest running interstate matches in the country. The top eight also qualify for the prestigious Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational and the Junior Heritage. The Champion receives an exemption into the SCGA Amateur and the Sage Valley Junior Invitational.
