Steve Fuller named SCGA President at SC Golf Day

A New Year Brings a New Change at the Reigns

On January 9, 2016 at the South Carolina Golf Association’s annual meeting, Steve Fuller of Bluffton was elected to serve as President of the Association. The 59-year-old Fuller who is a Development Partner with Colleton River Plantation has served on the SCGA’s Executive Board since 2004.  Officers elected to the SCGA Board joining Fuller include: Vice President Ron Swinson of Blythewood, Secretary Vic Hannon of Camden and Treasurer Jeff Connell also of Blythewood, Re-elected Board members include: Mike Whitaker (Greenville), Justin Converse (Spartanburg), John Durst (Columbia), Rick Cloninger (Ft. Mill), Rick Miller (Pawleys Island), Rob Reeves (Greenville), Mike Murphy (Bluffton), Jay Self (Greenville), John Moore (Anderson), Larry Beidelman (Dataw Island), David Seawell (Aiken) and Ben Zeigler (Florence).  Joining as new board members are Danny Stubbs (Columbia) and Luther Cochrane (Charleston).  John Lopez (Murrells Inlet) now serves as the Immediate Past President.

 

The South Carolina Golf Association was formed in 1929 to serve the golf needs of member clubs and the golfers of South Carolina. The SCGA has some 283-member clubs with over 57,000 individual golfers on their membership system.  The SCGA office also houses the South Carolina Junior Golf Association and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.

 

The SCGA’s annual meeting was held in conjunction with Golf Day which recognizes the SCGA’s year-end award winners and also the 2015 South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame ceremonies. During the day the SCGA named Spring Valley Country Club as the 2015 Club of the Year.  Tommy and Susan Jordan, from Rock Hill, became the first ever couple to be awarded the Charles Drawdy Distinguished Service Award for their volunteer work with the South Carolina Junior Golf Association, including 22 years as Chapter directors.  The Hootie and Blowfish’s Monday After the Masters Tournament Board was selected as the Tom Fazio Service to Golf Award for their exceptional work and performance for the twenty two years that the event has existed.  Rick Cloninger of Ft. Mill won his fourth straight Senior Player of the Year.  University of South Carolina senior Matt NeSmith, captured the SCGA’s Player of the Year title.

 

Charles Rymer, a 48 year old former Georgia Tech All American and PGA Tour Pro, now Golf Channel personality, was inducted as the 65th member of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame.  Rymer grew up in Fort Mill where he honed his skills and won three consecutive SC Junior Titles as well as the US Junior Championship.
