Hite Captures First SCGA Major
For the second day in a row, Mother Nature smiled on the players at Spring Valley Country Club and Carey Hite basked in the sunshine taking home his first SCGA Tournament Title. Hite shot a final round score of one under par 71 for a two day total of 141 to win the SCGA’s Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship by two shots over Wayne Rogers.
Hite, a member of The Members Club in Columbia, was steady throughout the day making three birdies to only two bogies, made consecutively on holes six and seven. Playing the last five holes at two under par, the 67 year old Columbia resident was able to tame the fast greens and swirling winds just enough to hold off the strong contingent of players behind him. Finishing in second place was Easley’s Wayne Rogers at 143. Third place finisher, Lee Irving from Bluffton, shot a two day total of 145. Defending Champion, Mike Wiener, rounded out the top five with scores of 74-73 for the two days.
The field was split into three different flights after the first round. The Harry Wilson Flight was captured by two time former Champion, Bob Stringer with a score of 150. The Orr Flight saw Gary Schatz of Fort Mill win by three shots after his final round score of 74 gave him a two day total of 156.

The 8th Annual SCGA Super Senior Championship was played on the par 72 – 5,780 yard Spring Valley Country Club in Columbia, S.C. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The field consisted of 78 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The Super Senior Championship is one of 20 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
