Addison & Wiggins Hold on for Victory

Thomas Addison III and Matthew Wiggins finished with a tournament best of 129 to win the 20th SCGA Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship by one stroke over two other teams at Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken, SC.

Playing with co-first round leaders, Geno Berchiatti and Robert Lutomski, Addison and Wiggins continued their torrid pace taking a two shot lead after making five birdies in their first ten holes. Heading into the 13th hole, that lead remained at two until a Berchiatti birdie on the 384 yard par four closed the lead to one. That is the closest the upstate team could get as each putt and each shot was matched by the Champions, including bogies by both teams on the 18th hole. Unknown to either team was Jeff Pope and Steve Foss’s nine under par 63 that left them at 14 under par and ultimately tied for second in the event.

Finishing tied for fourth was the Aiken team of David Seawell and Mike Wiland along with Jarrett Grimes and Chris Mitchell. Defending Champions, JD Hoft and Jamie Manning finished at four under par 140.

The 2014 SCGA Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72 – 6,843 yard Wisteria course at Woodside Plantation Country Club. The field consisted of 64 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship is in its 20th year of existence and is one of 20 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
