5th Annual Super Senior Championship
Stringer Goes Low For Victory
Bob Stringer won his second Super Senior Championship after shooting a tournament low score of 67 for a two day total of 140 at Columbia's Spring Valley Country Club. Stringer's low round included six birdies and a hole in one on the 137 yard thirteenth hole. The Blythewood native credited the victory not to the final round score, but to the first round score of 73 which he stated that he "scraped it around" to keep him in the hunt. Stringer first won this event in 2009 at the Dunes West Club in Mt. Pleasant. Finishing in second place was Gunner Bennett from Warrenville while Columbia's Steve Pachol took the third place spot at 145.
In the Wilson Flight, Elgin's Bill Shake bettered his first round score of 82 by fourteen shots after shooting a 68 for tournament total of 150. Three players tied for second at 153.
The 5th Annual SCGA Super Senior Championship was played on the par 72 – 5,881 yard Spring Valley Country Club in Columbia, SC. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The field consisted of 65 individuals over the age of 65 years old scheduled to play a stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The Super Senior Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
