36th Annual SCGA-GA Junior Team Matches
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Event: 36th Annual SCGA Georgia-South Carolina Junior Team Matches
Playing dates: July 15-16, 2011
Tournament site: May River Golf Course – Bluffton, GA
2011 GA-SC Junior Team Matches end with Georgia
taking the trophy
South Carolina was 7 matches of eight down at the turn for the final day of the GA-SC team
Matches. They started the day tied at four points each and all look grim after nine holes. After a
comeback of sorts, Georgia claimed the title after they took six of the second day matches to win
overall with 10 points to SC’s 6 match victories.
Thirty-six years ago, Pete Cox of the Georgia State Golf Association and Charles Rountree, Jr. of
the South Carolina Golf Association formalized the idea of the GA - SC team matches. The
winning team has their victory inscribed on the beautiful Rountree - Cox trophy that was donated
by the Rountree family. Every junior golfer that has participated in the 35 year old competition
will find his name on the trophy with his teammates. The Georgia teams have now produced 22
victories as compared to the 13 for the SC teams. Last year marked the first ever tie in the history
of the event!
The Junior Championship is one of 19 SCGA statewide championships, 80 one-day contests, nine
USGA qualifiers, eight 40-plus tournaments and five special events conducted by the SCGA.
Results, schedules and applications may be accessed via the Internet at www.scgolf.org.
