Dataw Island Club to Host 42nd SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship
COLUMBIA, SC (October 5, 2022) – The South Carolina Golf Association will host the 42nd Annual Mid - Amateur Championship at the Dataw Island Club in St. Helena Island, SC from October 7-9, 2022. A field of 111 players will compete to take home the 2022 championship title.

This year marks the forty-second playing of the SCGA Mid - Amateur Championship and the second time the Dataw Island Club has hosted. The SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship was last played at Dataw in 1989 with South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame Member, Bill Smunk, winning the title. The Dataw Island Club has also hosted many other SCGA events including the SCGA Amateur Championship in 2018.
The event will be played on both Dataw Island Club Courses – Friday’s opening round will be on the Cotton Dike course followed by the second round being played on the Morgan River Course. The final round will be played again on the challenging and picturesque Cotton Dike Course.
Headlining the list of notable players in the field is the 2021 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion and reigning SCGA Player of the Year, Christian Sease. Past Mid - Amateur Champions, Jordan Sease (2019) of Lexington, Kyle Bearden (2018) of Barnwell, Josh Branyon (2011, 2017) of Honea Path, Chris Eassy (2016) of Simpsonville, and Robert Dargan (2014) of Columbia will also be vying for the 2022 Mid - Amateur Championship title.
The 2022 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship field also has four recent participants in the 2022 U.S Mid-Amateur Championship: Weston Bell (Piedmont), Christian Sease (Greenville), Jason Steiner (Fort Mill), and Jon Weiss Jr. (Florence).
