Two Teams Tied at the Top at Musgrove Mill

CLINTON, SC   (May 24, 2023) – The challenging Arnold Palmer designed layout at Musgrove Mill lived up to its reputation today after the first round of the 2023 SCGA Four-Ball Championship. Two teams find themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard.

The side of Chris Mitchell (Prosperity) and Matt Laydon (Charleston) along with the side of Jarrett Grimes (Columbia) and John O’Brien (Columbia) both shot opening rounds of five under par 67. Laydon’s round was highlighted by a hole in one on the par three seventh hole.

On what was a difficult day for scoring, only twelve of the 52 teams ended their day in red figures. Sitting alone in third place is the team of Dane Burkhart (Aiken) and Jonathan Brazeal (Simpsonville) after a round of four under par 68.

Garland Ferrell (Greenville) and Robbie Biershenk (Boiling Springs) ended their day alone in the fourth spot after carding a round of three under par 69.

Fifty-two teams are vying for the 32 spots that qualify for the Match Play portion of the event that begins on Friday morning. Defending Champions Grant Sellers and Trevor Gerard were unable to defend their title this year which means the number one seed is up for grabs.

The Second Round of Stroke Play Qualifying will begin Thursday morning at 8:00 AM off holes #1 and #10.
