Two Teams Tied at the Top After Round One of the Lefty-Righty Championship
SANTEE, SC (June 24, 2023) – A beautiful sun-filled day greeted the 64 team field at the opening round of the 2023 SCGA Lefty-Righty Championship & Lefthanders Championship at Lake Marion Golf Club in Santee, SC.
Two teams find themselves tied atop the leaderboard after the first round. Walt Todd Jr. (Greenville) and partner Danny Ezelle (Taylors) are tied with Johns Island team of Brandon Hartzell and Mike Durden. Both teams would card rounds of seven under par 65. Burch Harrison (Columbia) and William Phipps (Florence) find themselves one shot off the pace after a first round 66.
In Lefthanders competition, Danny Ezelle offset two early bogeys with seven birdies for a round of five under par 67. He will carry a three shot lead into the final round over Fountain Inn’s Thomas Spangler.
In Senior Lefty-Righty competition, Steve Horton (Moncks Corner) and Rich Weston (Pawleys Island) lead after an opening round of 7 under par 5.
The Thornblade Club duo of Duff Wagner and Ron Clontz sit three shots back after a first round of four under par 68.
In Senior Lefthanders competition, Rich Weston (Pawleys Island) leads after an opening round of even par 72. He will take a two shot lead over Ron Clontz (Greer) heading into the final round.
