Walter Todd Sr. and Ronald Cerrudo to be Inducted into the SC Golf Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, SC – President of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, Frank Ford III, has announced Walter Todd Sr. and Ronald Cerrudo will be inducted into the SC Golf Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the SCGA's 20th Annual Golf Day.

This year’s honorees will become the 77th and 78th members of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame.

Walter Todd Sr. of Laurens has amassed an impressive playing record throughout his amateur career, yet his excellent playing ability is only a fraction of what makes Todd a valuable addition to the SC Golf Hall of Fame.

Competing at the state, national, and international levels for nearly four decades, Todd’s golf resume has grown into a list of many impressive accomplishments. His successes at the state level alone speak for themselves, claiming the SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion title in 2005, CGA Mid-Amateur title in 2007, seven SCGA Four-Ball titles, three SCGA Father-Son titles with both of his sons, nine Musgrove Mill Club Champion titles, three-time SCGA Senior Player of the Year, and 2019 Senior Azalea Champion.

While these are only some of the many accomplishments Todd has acquired at the state level, he has also been successful at the national and international levels claiming the 2017 Senior Jones Cup Champion title, competed in the 2012 US Mid-Amateur, 2016, ’19 & ‘22 British Senior Amateurs and the 2018, ’19, ’21 & ‘23 US Senior Amateurs advancing to the quarterfinals in 2019.

Todd is known across the golf community for his unwavering integrity, competitive spirit, and genuine humility, but his affiliation to the game extends further than his playing ability. Todd served on the Carolinas Golf Association Board for thirteen years and was the president in 2010-2011. The Todd family has also been the title sponsor of the SCJGA Thomas D Todd All-Stars Championship since 2007 in honor of their father. Their sponsorship has helped create opportunities for thousands of junior golfers to play the game across South Carolina.

Joining Todd in this year’s class is Ronald Cerrudo of Mt. Pleasant. The SC Golf Hall of Fame recognizes those individuals that have made a great impact on the game of golf in South Carolina through their playing abilities, their dedication to the game or a combination of both. Cerrudo is certainly a combination of both.

Cerrudo has been a great player, renowned instructor and most importantly, a great ambassador of the game. He was a distinguished amateur player, winning his native California Junior Championship in 1961 and 1962, as well as the Northern California Amateur Championship in 1965 and 1966.

Cerrudo played college golf at San Jose State University where he was a two-time All-American. In 1966 he represented the United States on the four-man USGA World Amateur Team and was a member of the 1967 Walker Cup team. Cerrudo played on the PGA Tour for 11 years achieving victory as the 1968 Cajun Classic winner, 1970 Texas Open champion, and 1972 winner of the Moroccan Open.

When professional golf was no longer possible for Cerrudo due to injury, he turned his attention towards instruction, using his own profound love for the game to help others find theirs through better play. Cerrudo has been the Director of Instruction at the Ron Cerrudo Learning Center at Daniel Island Club since 2002 and serves as a volunteer with PGA Hope (Helping our Patriots Everywhere) providing golf instruction to disabled veterans. He was recognized as Teacher of the Year in the Carolinas Section in 1986 and named Top Teaching Professional in South Carolina by Golf Digest Magazine in 2016.

The addition of these two individuals will bring the total number of South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame members to 78.

The induction ceremony will take place at the SCGA’s Golf Day hosted by Columbia Country Club in Columbia, SC on January 13, 2024.
