Austin Morgan Secures the Win at the 44th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship

Austin Morgan of Charleston and Kyle Bearden of Barnwell both finished the final round of the 44th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship with a tournament total of seven-under-par 207 to force a playoff for the championship. Morgan carded a final round score of one-under-par 70 to sit tied in first alongside Bearden, who shot a final round of two-under-par 69. Ultimately, after a one-hole playoff, Austin Morgan claimed the title with a birdie.
“These were two tough golf courses; the conditions were tough. It was just a great weekend”, stated Morgan. “I felt like my driving was great, my ball striking was great. I just tried to keep it in front of me as much as I possibly could. I knew it was going to be a tough three days of golf, and it definitely was. I’m happy to be the champion, to come out on top, and to have a great weekend.”
Sam Jackson of West Columbia fired a final round score of seven-under-par 64 to tie for third place with a tournament total of six-under-par 208. Alongside Jackson in the T3 position was Jake Corn of Rock Hill, who carded a final round of one-under-par 70 to also finish the tournament at six-under-par 207.
The 2024 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship was conducted on the Fripp Island Resort- Ocean Creek course par 71 - 6,392 yds and Ocean Point course par 72 - 6,495 yds. The field consisted of 100 players from around the State of South Carolina and was cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
