The team of Dane Burkhart of Aiken and Scott Usher of Charleston have claimed the 27th Annual SCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball title after a come from behind victory in the final round. Burkhart and Usher remained in tight competition until a solid birdie on number 17 which put them at 12-under par 60 for the round. The team had a strong finish despite harsh weather conditions, posting an impressive 20-under par 124, overall.
“We both played really well both days,” Usher said. “Dane probably had 15 or 16 birdies through the two days, and I was lucky enough to fill in where he wasn’t playing great, so I think we brother-in-lawed it well.”
“We knew coming into today that we were going to need to shoot something low,” Burkhart said. “We got off to a great start on the front-nine, then made five birdies in a row on the back-nine and Scott had a great birdie on 17 to seal it in for us. It’s great to be the champions. We have played so much together, we both love Bulls Bay and any SCGA tournament, so this is just a good feeling, and it was a lot of fun.”
Barnwell natives, Kyle Bearden and Blake Austin fought their way up the leaderboard in the final round posting 18-under par 126 overall to claim second place.
Three teams finished in a tie for third place, each carding 17-under par 127 overall for the tournament. Those teams include Dixon Walker of Lexington / Zachary Herold of Columbia, Yancey Johnson of Greenville / Chad Siefert of Simpsonville and Garland Ferrell of Greenville / Michael Sims of Lexington.
