Reynolds and Cemprola Capture Partners Championship Title
An idyllic day for the final round of the 28th Annual SCGA Partners Championship welcomed players to Spring Valley Country Club and The Club at Woodcreek. With the sun beaming down on competitors, the team of Ryan Reynolds (Lugoff) and Brandon Cemprola (Columbia) would begin their march to the winner's circle.
With a steady back nine and chip in birdie on the 18th to secure the title, Reynolds and Cemprola were able to hold off two time winners of the event, Weston Bell (Greenville) and Robert Lutomski (Simpsonville). Joining Bell and Lutomski as second place finishers, Rich Weston (Pawleys Island) and Duff Wagner (Taylors) turned up the heat firing a final round eight under par 64 and tournament total of 17 under par, 127.
Finishing in fourth place for the championship and a tournament total of 128, Greenville's Walt Todd, Jr. and reigning SCGA Player of the Year Kyle Bearden (Barnwell).
Moving to the Tournament Division, Zach Schwab and Steve Paley would fire a final round five under par 67, keeping the Columbia combo at the top of the leaderboard and capturing the Division title by two shots. The Simpsonville side of Duane Barnes and Dennis Schwab secured second place finishing with a five under par 67. Rivers Killen and Josh Goethe of Columbia and the team of Austin Finley (Belton) and Brian Bates (Simpsonville) rounded out the top three with a tournament total nine under par 135.
The 2021 SCGA Partners Championship was played at both Spring Valley Country Club and The Club at Woodcreek. The field consisted of 100 two-man teams playing Captains Choice in the first round and a Modified Texas Scramble in the final round. The Championship Division competed at Spring Valley Country Club on Day One and The Club at Woodcreek on Day Two, vice versa for the Tournament Division. The Partners Championship is in its 28th year of existence and is a fundraiser for the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
