Hopkins & Stanek Claim Title in Florence

On another windy day with cool temperatures and sporadic rain showers, Danny Hopkins (Murrells Inlet) and Alex Stanek (Conway) shot a final round low score of five under par 66 for a two day total of 131 to win the SCGA’s Senior Four Ball Championship held at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC. 

Hopkins and Stanek started the day with a one shot lead over the defending champion team of Mike Gravley (Greer) and Todd Webber (Moore), along with two shot lead over a plethora of other highly decorated teams. Unfortunately for the field, the Horry County duo kept their feet on the gas and didn’t look back. After starting their round with a bogey on the first hole, Hopkins and Stanek stayed steady on the front nine with pars, adding a birdie on the Par-5 8^th Hole to help even their front nine. As weather began to worsen on the back nine, Hopkins and Stanek seemed to embrace the elements as the team compiled 5 birdies and 4 pars to ultimately win the championship by three strokes over Bert Atkinson (Charleston) and Sammy Truett (Surfside Beach), who respectfully shot a final round score of 4 under par 67. Finishing in solo third place was Mike Gravley & Todd Webber with a two day total of 135.

In the First Flight, Andy Congdon and Lance Trent were triumphant with a score of 138.  In the Second Flight, Rich Rebholz and Joe Robinson took the top honors in with a score of 142.

The 2019 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 71 – 6,208 yard Florence Country Club in Florence, S.C. The field consisted of 58 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 21 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
