The Spur at Northwoods Takes Trescott Title

The team of Brian Tucker, Mims Liner, and Tim Eich representing The Spur at Northwoods are the winners of the 35^th Trescott Championship. The trio finished at a combined even par 216 after 18 holes and found themselves in a tie with the team representing Holly Tree Country Club. The teams needed a one hole playoff to decide the Championship.

In the Pro-Am portion of the event, the Northwoods team, accompanied by golf professional Greg McBride fired a twelve under par 132 in the two best balls of four format. Professional Andrew Zeigler and his team from Holly Tree finished in a tie for second place at 133 along with Professional Rohan Allwood and the team from Mid Carolina Club.

The Trescott Championship, named after the former long time SCGA Secretary George C. Trescott, is a unique Club Championship where three amateur members from a club combine their aggregate score from each hole to compete for the Trescott Cup.

During the course of play, a Pro-Am is also conducted with the three amateurs and their Club Professional using the best two gross balls per hole.

The 2017 Trescott Championship was conducted on the par 72 ~ 6,855 yard Columbia Country Club. The Championship began with 15 teams consisting of a Club Professional and three amateurs.  The combined scores of the three amateurs are used to determine the team score for the Trescott Championship while the two best balls of the four players are used to determine the Pro-Am score.  The Trescott Championship is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 35th year of existence.
