Hargett / Todd win three team playoff to repeat as champions
Defending champions Eddie Hargett and Walter Todd entered Sunday’s final round just one shot behind first round leaders Todd Hendley and Mike Mahoney. Both teams fought each other close in what seemingly appeared to be a two team race. Little did they know, Bruce Gantt and Joe Hendrick would make this tournament a three team race, firing a tournament low nine under par 63 for a two day total of twelve under 132. Hargett and Todd bested Hendley and Mahoney by one shot on Sunday, shooting 67 to get themselves into the playoff. On the first playoff hole, Eddie Hargett sank a twelve foot birdie putt while Todd Hendley narrowly missed a birdie try of his own that would have extended the playoff.
This is Eddie Hargett and Walter Todd’s second victory in the SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship in as many appearances. This year’s winners also include Duff Wagner and Terry Willis in the first flight, and Chris Culler and Tim Teaster in the second flight.
The 2016 Senior Better Ball Championship is one of 21 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 43rd Annual event was played on the 6,369 yard, par 72 golf course at Santee Cooper Country Club in Santee, SC.
