Champions Cruise to Victory

The teams of Steve Agazzi and Kathryn Miranda along with Mark Hoover and Lea Anne Brown both provided dominating performances in their respective divisions to become 2014 Champions of the SCGA – WSCGA Mixed Team Championship at Oldfield Golf Club and Island West Golf Course.

In the Championship Division, Agazzi and Miranda shot a two day total of fourteen under par, 130 to win by five shots over former champions Chad and Kadi Meldrum and the team of JD Hoft and Sigrid Kueng. Hoft and Kueng, playing in the Second Flight, took a seven shot victory within their flight.

In the Senior Division, Mark Hoover teamed with, multi-time Mixed Team Champion, Lea Anne Brown to take top honors with a two day score of 131. There was a tie for first in the Second Flight between the teams of Bruce and Sue Kline and Dean and Carolyn Gosnell. In the Third Flight, Bruce and Jackie Beck took the largest margin of victory with a twelve shot advantage over their nearest competitor with a score of 151.

The 2014 WSCGA/SCGA Mixed Team Championship was played at the Oldfield Golf Club and Island West Golf Course in Okatie and Bluffton, S.C. The field consisted of 50 man & woman teams playing a Best Ball format the first day and a Captains Choice format the second day. The Championship Flights and Senior – Third Flight played the Island West Golf Course the first day while the top two Senior Flights played the Oldfield course layout. Teams played the other respective course for their final round on Sunday. The Mixed Team Championship is in its 17th year of existence and is one of 20 Major Championshipsconducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association and one of two Championships conducted in unison with the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association.
