38th Lefty Righty & 43rd Lefthanders Championship
Clontz / Hendley claim second title; newcomer Walker wins Lefthanders
2010 SCGA Lefty Righty Champions Ron Clontz (Greenville) and Todd Hendley (Greer) found themselves in a familiar spot Sunday, playing and competing with multi-time and defending champions, Robert Dargan and Brad Krapfel of Columbia. This year the Clontz / Hendley pair can claim bragging rights, as a final round 67 (matching their first round total) enabled them to snag a one shot victory over the hard charging team of Scotty Davis (Charleston) and Jeremy Moore (Mt. Pleasant), who shot a tournament low seven under par 65 on Sunday. Clontz and Hendley’s two day total of 10 under par gives the pair their second SCGA Lefty Righty Championship in 4 years.
Ryan Watford (Florence) and Daniel Johnson (Hartsville) matched Davis and Moore with their own 65, as they claimed top prize in the First Flight.
In the Lefthanders Championship, first round leader Dixon Walker of Lexington eked out a one shot victory over three others, including past champion Stan Sill of Spartanburg. Walker’s two over par 74, combined with day one’s three under par 69 was good for a two day total of one under par 143 and a victory for the Country Club of Lexington’s first ever appearance in the Lefthanders Championship. Scotty Davis of Charleston shot a Sunday low two under par 70 to also finish one back.
The 2013 SCGA Lefty Righty / Lefthanders Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 37th Annual event was played on the 6,320 yard, par 72 golf course at Lake Marion Golf Club in Santee, SC.
