Columbia Country Club Wins Lathrop Cup
Columbia Country Club rallied from a slow start to come back and win The Lathrop Cup for the first time in the six year history of the event. The Columbia Country Club team of Bernie Shealy, Walter Odiorne and Gary Garahan shot a nine over par 119 to win by two over the Palmetto Golf Club team.
The Palmetto Golf Club didn’t go away empty handed however, managing to take first place in the Pro-Am portion of the event. Led by Head Professional Brooks Blackburn, the Palmetto team was comprised of amateurs Michael Carlisle, Jimmy Hamilton & Jim Wise.
The 2013 SCGA Lathrop Cup was played on the par 70, 6,000 yard Camden Country Club Golf Course in Camden, SC. The field consisted of 21 teams playing in both the Lathrop Cup and the Lathrop Cup Pro-Am. The Lathrop Cup is comprised of three amateurs over the age of 55 to compete for the Senior Club Championship of South Carolina. The Lathrop Cup is named after long time SCGA Executive Director Happ Lathrop and is one of 19 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association.
