31st Annual Mid-Amateur Championship
Hendley Holds On For Championship
With a final round of 68 and a three day total of fourteen under par 202, Todd Hendley is the 2012 SCGA Mid Amateur Champion.
Starting the day with a two shot lead, the 54 year old Thornblade member birdied the first hole and never looked back completing the day with four birdies, one eagle & two bogies en route to his first SCGA Major Championship title. At one point, Hendley has worked his lead up to five shots after making eagle on the par five 13th hole, but a flurry of birdies by second place finisher Todd White wasn’t enough to catch the seasoned veteran. Todd White finished the event at ten under par 204.
Former Champion, Steve Liebler along with Robert Godfrey and Chris Mitchell finished tied for 3rd at 209.
It took a score of 9 over par 153 to make the cut to the low 60 players and ties which resulted in a final round field of 61 players vying for the title.
The 2012 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship was played on the par 72 ~ 6,444 yard Forest Lake Club course in Columbia, SC. The field consisted of 120 individuals playing 54 holes of stroke play and was cut to the low 60 and ties after the second round. The Mid-Amateur is one of 19 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 31st year of existence.
