46th Annual Four-Ball Championship
Whitt & Todd Do It Again
Chip Whitt and Walter Todd have successfully defended their title in the SCGA Four Ball Championship. The too tough to beat team defeated David Kite and Ross Tooley 2 & 1 on a beautiful summer morning at the Furman University Golf Course.
The Champions got off to a hot start with a birdie out of the gate to take a one hole lead. After a par win on the long par three 4th hole, Whitt & Todd looked to be in control with a 2 up lead after four. College of Charleston assistant golf coach David Kite wasn’t about to go away without a fight making a 12 foot eagle putt on the par five 6th. A par win by Kite and Tooley on the 7th got the teams back to square. Walter Todd came right back with a birdie of his own on the 8th and another birdie on the 9th after a 30 foot putt from the front of the green fell to get them back to 2 up.
Making the turn, the College of Charleston golfer, Ross Tooley hit a spectacular shot into the 10th making birdie to get with one. Todd had an answer though making a birdie on the par five 11th to go back up by two. Tooley and Kite had one more run in them with Tooley making a 60 foot bomb on the 13th for birdie and a chip and a putt birdie on the par five 15th to get back to square. The Charleston team faltered however, making bogies on the 16th and 17th holes giving Todd and Whitt their second consecutive SCGA Four Ball title 2 & 1.
This marks the third time out of four opportunities that Todd and Whitt have played together and made it to the finals. This Championship is the 7th SCGA Four Ball title that Walter Todd has captured, winning five others with his brother, TD Todd.
