26th Annual Mid-Amateur Championship
Truett Charges to Victory
Sammy Truett came from two behind with a final round score of 66 and a tournament total of 210 to capture the 2007 SCGA Mid Amateur Championship at the DeBordieu Club.
Truett, a Surfside resident, came out on a mission making birdie on 7 of the first 10 holes he played. Truett’s front nine score of 30 was the lowest on that side for the week and gave him a three shot cushion heading into the final nine. The closest anyone could get however, was within two shots after Truett bogied the tough par four 15th hole. A birdie on the 17th hole gave the 45 year old Insurance Agent the room he needed to capture his first individual SCGA Championship.
First and Second round leader Rion Moore from Georgetown and the 2006 Defending Champion Steve Liebler finished tied for 2nd at four under par 212. Rick Cloninger from Ft. Mill and Todd Hendley from Simpsonville wrapped up the top 5 with scores of 214 and 215 respectively.
The 2007 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship was played on the Pete & PB Dye designed par 72 ~ 6,937 yard DeBordieu Club course in Georgetown, SC. The field consisted of 120 individuals playing 54 holes of stroke play and was cut to the low 60 and ties after the second round. The Mid-Amateur is one of 18 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 26th year of existence.
